  • The Epiphany: an Ending Phase of Life

I have exactly 21 days left of high school. 29 till the graduation ceremony. 42 till I choose my classes for my fall semester at college. And 120 until freshman move-in day.

Until then, my life is filled with a multitude of events (mostly in the next month). I have a Senior ball game, 6 flags trip, senior luncheon, project graduation, my own graduation party, a trip to Texas, a trip to Florida, a shadowing program, my part time job....so many things are filling up my remaining time at home. There are so many I need to finish, or want to start, but who knows if or when I’ll have time.  Soon I’ll be off to college, independent, on my own, starting the next phase of my life.

Time flies. Really. It’s so cliché when you hear it from someone else, but when you see everything pass before your eyes, it’s almost an epiphany. A sudden, intuitive perception of how fast the rest of your life really goes by. Where will I be in four years? Four years ago, I totally wouldn’t have expected me to change so much.

Am I truly ready for this kind of independence? Will it suddenly hit me my first night in my dorm that I miss my family more than I thought I would?  What if I’m not ready for the classes? What if I fail? Questions fill my brain to the brim and the only one who can answer them is I. I am excited, but it seems the closer it gets, the more nervous I become.

All I know is high school; that is where I’ve spent the majority of my time for the past four years. I’m to the point that I’m done. I’m done with immature underclassmen, I’m done with silly high school drama, and I’m done with seeing the same people day in and day out. I’m ready to break free and move on. College- Here I come.

  • Beach in a Box

A girl I work with has been going through a really hard time in her life. I was talking to her at work the other night, and she has been thinking about moving closer to the beach. To cheer her up, I made a Beach in a Box. A what, you might ask? I'll show you.

    P3190100

First I made a nifty little note. I used a lighter to burn the edges.

    P3190101

    (inside the box)

    P3190132

You can't have a beach without sand! (1.5 lbs at Hobby lobby for $1.99)

    P3190122

A shallow-ish plastic tray. I'm not sure what originally it was used for. I found it at, you guessed it, Hobby lobby.

    P3190131

I found 2 small stubby sticks in my yard, and hot glued some fake flower leaves on top. VOILA! Palm trees:)

    P3190120

The famous drink umbrellas and a beach towel! To make the towel, I cut a small rectangle out of a wash rag (make sure it's clean) and instead of hemming the sides, I ran fabric glue around the edges and let it dry.

    P3190115

To make this beach ball, I painted an old bouncy ball.

     P3190116

I had this crab laying around in my room. I think I got it from some quater machine.

    P3190117

And of course, sea shells! I hade these already, but you can find them at craft stores.

Now that you know how I made this miniature beach in a box, go make one and enjoy!

  • Baby Sock Bunnies

    P3190135

So I tried out my Sock Bunny Pattern (click here for tutorial) on baby socks.

I bought a pack of 6 pairs of baby boy socks (0-6 Months) at Walmart.

I used small beads for the eyes and nose.

But I did not stuff feet and ears with beads. I only used stuffing.

    P3190138

They turned out to be about the size of a mug!!

    Cute, huh?

  • Bleach Shirt Tutorial

This is not the first Bleach shirt I've made, but this is my most resent.

    P2100050

    1. I take a plain shirt (I purchased this one at Hobby Lobby). Its best if it is a darker color. This is navy blue (if you couldn't tell). Bleaching black makes almost the same color, maybe just a little more tan.

    2. draw your design on cardboard and cut it out with a box cutter. (if you want to put words on it, i recommend using masking tape to take the letters down, cutting letters out of thick cardboard is tedious)

    3. Lay newspaper out, then put the shirt on top. place the cardboard where you want the design.

    4. I took a bottle and filled it half with bleach and half with water.

    5. Stand a few feet back (but not too far back, you don't want to get bleach everywhere) and lightly spray bleach over design. Don't over spray, because the color might not start to change for a minute or two.

    6. when color begins to change the way you like, run the shirt threw water to rinse extra bleach off.

    7. throw in the washer then dryer, and Voila! You have a Hardcore Homemade shirt!

  • Recycle your Socks! SOCK BUNNY =:-)

Oh, what to do, what to do with all those socks that lost their match? Go Green and Recyle them! Make yourself some adorable sock bunnies! Anyone can make these. I'm not the greatest at sewing, and I would say its a pretty easy project.

    Sock Bunny Tutorial

    Materials:

    1. old sock (crew cut is best)

    2. needle and thread (that matches sock)

    3. rice/beans/pellets/beads

    4. stuffing

    5. buttons

    6. ribbon (optional)

    1

First set your sock up, inside out, with the heel facing up. I trimmed mine down because I thought it was too long, but thats your own choice.

    2

For the ears, but down the middle, from the toe end untill you reach the heel, but do not cut through the heel. For the legs, cut about halfway to the heel, from the other end.4

If you'd like, you can round off the ears.

    5

With your matching thread, begin sewing all the way around the ears.

    6

    Like so ^^^

    7

Begin sewing around the legs, but not all the way around.

    8 copy

Only sew around the bottom of the foot and halfway up the leg. do this for each leg. The whole that is left is where you start stuffing.

    10

Take a few of your beans/rice/pellets or in my case, beads and ever-so-slightly fill the tip of each ear.11

Thats all i filled mine. This is just to make the ears a bit heavier.

    12

Then take your stuffing and again, just slightly fill each ear so they are still floppy.

    13

Then you can stuff the head and body. Remember, keep those ears floppy!10

take a few beads again, and fill each foot, like you did the ears. then stuff them, but don't leave the legs floppy like the ears.

    14

and there is your bunny's body! Don't forget to sew on buttons for the eyes and nose. I used thread or embroidery floss to stitch on a mouth. Finish your sock bunny off with a ribbon!

    15

(you cant really see the ears on the last two, they are flopped behind)

    Other ideas:

*angel bunny (to go with my devil on the end)

*use baby socks to make baby bunnies

    *tuxedo bunny

*use fringe to make a flapper bunny

*pretty much anything can go with these guys!
